Fall is upon us, and you know what that means - cosy sweaters, pumpkin spice everything, and of course, fabulous lash extensions. However, as the weather gets cooler and crisper, it's time to update our eyelash extension care routine. In this blog post, we'll explore some practical advice that you can share with your clients to help them maintain stunning lashes throughout the Fall season.
Fall often brings rainy days and damp weather. Remind your clients to avoid getting their lash extensions excessively wet. Encourage them to use an umbrella when it's drizzling and to pat their lashes gently with a clean, lint-free cloth if they do get wet. Excessive moisture can weaken the bond between the lash extensions and the natural lashes, potentially leading to premature shedding. If your clients are planning to spend a lot of time outdoors, advise them to protect their lashes from the elements. As the wind picks up, suggest they wear protective gear like hats, scarves, or sunglasses. These items can help shield the lashes from harsh winds, reducing the risk of damage.
As temperatures drop, your clients may be tempted to crank up the heat in their homes and cars. Heating systems can zap moisture from the air, which can also cause the lash glue bonds of the lashes to become brittle and prone to breakage. To combat this, encourage your clients to use a humidifier in their homes, especially in bedrooms, to maintain a healthy level of moisture in the air, keeping the lashes hydrated and less likely to shed prematurely. This will help preserve the condition of their lash extensions.
Proper lash hygiene is crucial year-round, but it's especially important in the Fall. Remind your clients about the importance of keeping their lashes clean. Recommend using a gentle, oil-free lash shampoo to your clients. Oil-based cleansers can weaken the lash glue bond between the eyelash extensions and the natural lashes, causing premature lash shedding. Suggest they clean their lashes daily with a cleansing lash brush, making sure to remove any makeup or debris. Clean lashes not only look better but also last longer. Fall's cooler weather can also lead to drier skin and increased shedding of natural lashes. Encourage your clients to brush their lash extensions daily using a clean eyelash brush. This helps prevent tangling and ensures that lashes maintain their beautiful shape. You might also find it helpful to encourage your clients to take better care of their eyelash extensions by providing them with an aftercare leaflet at the end of their treatment, or why not give your profits a nice little boost and retail your own aftercare kit that has everything your client will need all in one place?
While it's tempting to cosy up by the fireplace or use hot tools to combat the chill, overexposure to heat can weaken the lash glue bonds, which in turn can also lead to premature lash shedding. Remind your clients to avoid exposing their lashes to excessive heat. If they use a heater or fireplace, recommend keeping a safe distance from direct heat sources. Your clients will also probably want to take long, hot showers during the winter to combat the cold, but as we mentioned previously, extreme heat and steam can be detrimental to lash extensions. So you should also advise your clients to try to avoid exposing their lashes to steam for extended periods.
Don't let your clients forget the importance of regular lash infill appointments. In the Fall season, it's especially crucial if your clients want to maintain the fullness and beauty of their lash extensions. Remind them to schedule infills every 2-3 weeks to replace any lost eyelash extensions and ensure their lashes continue to look flawless.
The cooler weather of the Fall season can lead to dry, itchy skin and often brings allergies for many people, which may tempt clients to rub their eyes. Emphasise the importance of avoiding any unnecessary contact with their lashes. Rubbing or pulling can damage both the eyelash extensions and the natural lashes, leading to premature lash shedding. Instead, recommend that they seek advice from their doctor about the possibility of using over-the-counter eye drops or antihistamines for relief.
As Lash Technicians, our job isn't just about applying extensions; it's also our duty to equip our clients with the knowledge they need to care for their eyelash extensions year-round. By sharing these helpful tips, you can ensure that your clients' lashes stay lush and lovely throughout the Fall season. So, let's embrace the Autumn vibes and keep those lashes looking fabulous!
