Movie-Inspired Lash Mapping for Coloured Eyelash Extensions
To celebrate the release of the live-action Barbie movie in the UK, we created some beautiful Barbie lash mapping inspiration. Whilst we’re at it, we’ve got some coloured lash extension maps that draw their creative influence from famous film characters and their iconic looks! From Barbie realness to Disney Princess royalty, and even notorious Disney Villains, we’ve got you and your clients covered!
Hi Barbie!
You know we had to kick things off with our childhood—and now adulthood—icon, Barbie herself! One of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Barbie is the gorgeous pink that the famous franchise is known for. So this Barbie-inspired lash look includes her signature colour.
The best way to do this is to incorporate pink-coloured lash extensions into your client’s lash look, which our London Lash Pink Mayfair coloured lashes are perfect for. You can use them to create a set with pink intermittent spikes throughout, or try mixing several complementary pink shades for a seamless ombre look.
For clients who want something a little more subtle whilst still living out their Barbie fantasy, you can offer an effortlessly glam eyeliner style. To achieve a dark eyeliner look, use short, narrow-base lash fans and longer lash spikes. Working with the natural lashes in layers helps create a full, fluffy and multidimensional set.
Layer 1
For the first layer, split the lash line into six sections. Similar to a Squirrel lash map, the lash extensions increase in length from the middle of the eye towards the outer edge, then gradually decrease as you reach the outer corner. To create light and fluffy narrow fans, we recommend our Mayfair Volume Lashes.
Layer 2
The second layer of lashes should be 1 mm longer than the first layer, following the same placement described for layer 1.
Layer 3
For the third layer, increase the length on the inner half of the eye whilst keeping the length the same on the outer half. This helps create the open-eyed Barbie Doll look.
Lash Spikes
To create the desired lash flick, gradually increase the spike lengths by 1 mm from the inner corner towards the outer corner for a subtle swooping flick.
Lash Mapping Fit for a Princess!
To some, Mermaid-inspired lash extensions are a dream come true when it comes to the perfect fantasy lash set. This style became particularly popular with the release of the live-action Little Mermaid film.
Ria Biggerstaff, the talented Lash Technician behind Ariel's lashes, collaborated with London Lash to help us create a mermaid-inspired lash map! This is the mapping she used for the movie, so your clients can become real-life Disney princesses. For this look, Ria used B-curls and C-curls because of their more natural shape, giving the appearance of enhanced natural lashes.
A few bold lash spikes have been added in the outer quarter to complement this look. For clients who like to be a little more daring, add coloured lashes in aquatic tones such as blue, purple, green and even a hint of silver.
Magnificent Maleficent Cat Eye Lash Extensions
Maleficent first swooped onto the silver screen in 1959 in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty and has remained an iconic and captivating villain ever since, especially through Angelina Jolie’s portrayal in the live-action adaptation. If your clients want a bewitching lash set, a classy Cat Eye style with a burst of deep purple and emerald green coloured lashes is perfect for achieving this.
To create this set, mark the middle of the eye so that your mapping is symmetrical across both eyes. The sections towards the inner corner should be wider than those towards the outer corner to help with elongation. Split the final outer section into three equal parts for a sweeping flick. This flick is the perfect place to add a pop of colour for an enchanting finish.
Harley Quinn’s Quirky Lash Spikes
From villain to antihero to superhero, Harley Quinn offers plenty of inspiration for colourful lash looks. For this set, we’ve drawn on Margot Robbie’s portrayal with vibrant pink and blue spikes. The spikes on the right eye will be pink, whilst those on the left eye will be blue.
Intermittent spikes are an excellent way to incorporate a flare of colour into wispy lashes without overwhelming the set. Once you have mapped your client’s lashes, add the spikes at regular intervals to create an even-looking lash line. Placing spikes across the upper and lower lash layers helps maintain the look as the natural lashes shed.
You could also use this method for Classic lashes or Russian Volume lashes if your client prefers. Our coloured lash range includes 0.15 lashes for adding colour to Classic sets and 0.07 lashes for creating Volume fans up to 5D.
TOP TIP: To create your spikes, add Primer to a microfibre lash brush and apply it to the tips of the extensions whilst they are on the strip to form closed fans.
Cruella De Vil: 101 Eyelash Extensions
A villainous icon who appeared on the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 Greatest Heroes and Villains, Cruella provides fabulous lash inspiration. This set uses her famous monochromatic look with a daring dash of red!
For our Cruella-inspired look, we’ve opted for a Squirrel style of Volume lashes to create a flattering open-eye effect that complements the colour palette. This mapping follows the brow arch and resembles natural lash growth, making it a versatile option for many clients.
Mark the middle of each eye to identify where the black lashes and white extensions will be applied, ensuring the set is symmetrical.
Apply the red fans at even intervals throughout the bottom lash layer for definition and visibility. This provides an accent of colour without overpowering the set. We recommend completing the red layer first before moving on to the white and black lashes.
Apply the white extensions from the middle towards the outer corner, and the black extensions from the middle towards the inner corner. Whilst you can use a black-pigmented lash glue for the black and red extensions, we recommend a clear adhesive such as Crystal Bond to avoid discolouring the white extensions.
We hope these lash maps offer a fun way for your clients to embody some of Hollywood’s most iconic movie characters. We would love to see your own film-inspired lash looks, so don’t forget to tag our Instagram page so we can admire your gorgeous lash work!
