Henna brows have emerged as a leading trend in the eyebrow beauty world. This natural and effective treatment offers stunning semi-permanent results, but many Brow Technicians, or Brow Techs-to-be, still have questions about the process, longevity, and safety. So Henna is here to answer your most pressing questions about henna brow treatments, ensuring you have all the information you need to make informed decisions and safe procedures.
Henna brows are a form of eyebrow tinting that employs natural henna dye to stain both the skin beneath the brow hairs and the hairs themselves. This creates a luscious, fuller look by casting a shadow and creating an illusion of depth and fullness in the brow area, visually filling in any sparseness.
Unlike traditional tinting, which only colours the brow hairs by lifting the natural hair pigment and re-introducing pigment through tint, henna tinting stains the skin beneath alongside the brow hairs themselves, giving your clients a fuller, denser brow appearance. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with sparse or over-plucked eyebrows. So Henna pigments also derive from natural ingredients, which unlike traditional brow tinting, does not lift the hair pigment or use any harsh chemical to tint the brows. It's ideal for those with sensitive skin and for clients who do not desire a treatment with harsher chemicals.
One of the most significant advantages of a henna brow treatment is its longevity. Typically, the treatment lasts on the hair for up to 6 weeks and on the skin for up to 2 weeks. The exact duration depends on your client's skin type, lifestyle, and Henna Brow Aftercare. Those with oilier skin may find the tint fades more quickly, while proper aftercare can help extend the tint’s life.
The henna brow application process is a detailed one, ensuring the best possible results. It includes the following steps:
Cleaning the Brow Area: The brow area is thoroughly cleansed using a Foam Cleanser to remove oils, makeup and any other impurities.
Choosing the Right So Henna Shade: Select the So Henna Shade that best compliments your client’s skin tone and hair colour. The beauty of So Henna powders is that they can be mixed together to create bespoke shades that perfectly match your clients' needs. We also offer two toning shades, Sweetener and Espresso which can be added for even more shade accuracy. Remember to use your Mixing Tool for the perfect So Henna consistency.
Brow Mapping: Every client will have their own desired outcome. Consulting with clients to find out what their dream brows would look like is important. Mapping henna brows is a vital step to achieving the outcome clients are looking for. For tips on how to map out the perfect henna brows, check out this blog post.
Applying the Henna: The henna should be carefully applied to the brows using a Brow Brush, ensuring even coverage and precision within your mapped out eyebrows. There are a range of application techniques you can choose depending on the desired outcome. Check out this blog to find out more about different brow henna applications.
Setting Time: The henna is left to set for about 20-30 minutes to ensure optimal colour development.
Removing the Henna: The henna is gently removed with a moist cotton pad with warm water, revealing beautifully tinted brows.
The entire process takes approximately 30 to 50 minutes.
Henna is a natural product, making it generally safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin; however, it does contain small amounts of PPD. It’s always prudent to conduct a patch test 48 hours before the henna brow treatment to ensure no allergic reaction to the PPD in henna.
Absolutely! One of the joys of the So Henna range is the variety of shades available. Whether you prefer a subtle, natural look or a bold, dramatic brow, there’s a henna shade to match your client's preference, even if that means mixing multiple powders!
Proper henna brow aftercare is crucial to maintaining the vibrant colour and longevity of the treatment. Here are some aftercare tips that you should remember to pass on to clients along with providing them with an Aftercare Leaflet:
Yes, your clients can apply makeup after the henna brow treatment. However, it's advisable to wait at least 24 hours before doing so to allow the henna tint to set and develop properly.
Henna brows are suitable for most individuals, including those with sensitive skin or allergies to traditional brow tinting products and chemicals. But, it is important to remember if your clients have a PPD allergy, for which you can patch-test, then brow henna will not be suitable either. It’s also important to note that whilst henna brows are deemed suitable for pregnant women, hormonal changes can lead to poor longevity and over processing of hair. So, due to its unpredictability, we recommended avoiding this treatment whilst pregnant, particularly in the third trimester and whilst breastfeeding.
Henna brows offer a fantastic, natural, and long-lasting alternative for eyebrow enhancement. The detailed henna brow application process ensures optimal results, leaving clients with gorgeous, fuller-looking brows. Proper henna brow aftercare further ensures the longevity of the tint, ensuring stunning brows for weeks to come.
